In the winter of 2018-2019, my mobility was temporarily restricted to my home in the woods of Maine. I asked my paintings, "Where do we go now?" The Trees, the Trackless Woods were my ever-patient companions. They opened up new worlds.
I had done dozens of drawings of dancers in rehearsal for "The Twenty- A Dance." It was a collaboration with Betsy Dunphy, choreographer , Barbara Truex White, a composer, and The Telling Room around my earlier series, The Twenty - an Elegy for the Children of Newtown, CT and all Children.
The mobility of the Dancers, the immobility of the Trees and the concurrent tragedy of Migrants at the Southern Border being separated from their children came together that year with trace prints, encaustics and cold wax constructions.
